THE CULTURE OF MEDIA SILENCE

  • There is no doubt that, Ghana is experiencing the culture of media silence. The Academia, Civil Society (CS), Media, Opionionated individuals and Statesmen (big voices), Judiciary etc have remain mute in the face of visible and vicious cycle of injustice/corruption currently being perpetrated. We cannot deny for the fact that, top media personalities have been given political positions in an effort to gag and compromise their activities on governance and government programs, however bad they maybe.
  • Eg.Kwame Sefa Kayi’s appointment as board member of the National Petroleum Authority and Paul Adom-Otchere as the board chair of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

  • Freedom of expression have not only come under threat in the Journalism space, as officials in government are afraid to express their opposing views for fear of losing their jobs .
  • However, we can commend the National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah for defyjng the odd and pointing to the injustices within the judiciary with his assertion that, ‘’a biased judiciary is a national security threat’’. The two works for Peace FM and Metro TV respectively
