All hail Kennedy Agyapong: the ill-tempered MP who threatened a judge and a journalist with impunity.

The President for the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, has petitioned The Inspector General of Police, and the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo- Addo to protect Judge Wuntah Wuni, and ensure his safety.

Speaking in an interview, he said, it can be recalled that the organization petitioned the Ghanaian authorities, following the public threatening of Ahmed Suale, by the Assin Fosu Legislator, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, which led to the fatal  killing of Ahmed Suale.

The President of the group said, they had a press conference, warning the Ghanaian Authority, to call Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to questioning, and to prosecute him for such a threat, to journalist, Ahmed Suale, and for that matter, an attack to free speech-but their petitions to the Ghanaian Authority were thrown into the bin. Saying, They did not take heed to the advice. They ignored the crucial advice to protect Ahmed Suale, and also to prosecute Kennedy Agyapong.

“Our petitions were ignored, and the result was catastrophic- which led to the death of Ahmed Suale. So, that is why we are today, appealing to the Authorities, to  put much protection, to the Supreme court  Judge. Or, should not take what Kennedy Agyapong said, as a joke-because, history has told us that when nothing was done to Kennedy Agyapong, the result was catastrophic. So, that is the advice we want to appeal to the Authorities; to call Kennedy Agyapong to questioning  for threatening the Supreme Court judge with words like; “  You are a stupid judge. I will face you”, “I will deal with you                   ”. This is an attack on judicial service, which is unacceptable, and it’s tantamount to a jail term, in a very serious country. So the threat against the judge, should be taken seriously”, he stressed.

Mr. Alhassan, also  made a reference that upon all the threats made by Kennedy Agyapong .That is, the threat to Ahmed Suale, and to judge Wuntah, reminds him of the famous Shakespeare saying; “Through tattered clothes small vices do appear ;Robes and furred gowns hide all”.

“In reference to Kennedy Agyapong, despites the crimes and his arrogance  abuse of power, he has never been well prosecuted, and well trialed based on his stature within the community- and it’s something that Ghana should move beyond. There should be justice for all. There should be rule of law. As I’m speaking now, Donald Trump, Former US President, is on trial, where the law is taking its cause. So, Ghana, being an example of Democracy in the region, should set an example by ensuring that there’s rule of law in Ghana, and that no one is above the law”, he added.
